WA’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) is a state government plan that will be rolled out from October 1, 2020.
The CDS is being fully funded by manufacturers, and this could lead to an increase in the purchase price for some beverages throughout Western Australia.
While consumers can receive 10 cents for every eligible container returned to an approved recycling centre, the scheme will also fund:
- The collection centre where containers will be received and sorted;
- Transportation of the containers to the end recycler;
- Advertising the scheme;
- Administration costs of WARRRL (the company running the scheme on behalf of the WA Government)
