The president of the Liquor Stores Association of Western Australia, Lou Spagnolo, has called time on his tenure with the organisation.
Mr Spagnolo has spent 15 years in the role, making him the longest serving president in the association’s 72-year history.
He first joined the LSA board in 2005.

After careful and considerable deliberation Mr Spagnolo said he decided to step down at this week’s board meeting coinciding with the LSA’s annual general meeting.
“It has been an honour and a rewarding experience to serve in this role, made even more meaningful by the unwavering support of our members, business partners and stakeholders across the political spectrum.”
Mr Spagnolo said he was proud of the association’s achievements, especially in dealing with the challenges brought on by the pandemic and a raft of legislative reform in recent years.
“We have made significant strides in securing a sustainable future for independent liquor stores across Western Australia which help provide local jobs and foster long term economic advantages for WA.”
“I am grateful for everyone who has contributed to the make-up of the industry and their continual support for our organization” he added.
LSA WA Chief Executive Peter Peck said Mr Spagnolo’s commitment to the industry was second to none.
“Lou has been a strong and supportive leader since I’ve come on board and it’s a loss to the association, we can’t deny that. He’s been the bedrock for so long.”
“However, with change comes opportunity and we have good people ready to step up and guide us through that change.”
“It will be business as usual in ensuring we get the job done in the best interests for our members. You can take that to the bank” Mr Peck added.
Deputy president Steve Nicoloff will act in the role until the board meets in early 2025 where a new president will be elected.
