The Liquor Stores Association of Western Australia would like to congratulate Premier Mark McGowan on his outstanding commitment to public service, following his decision today to retire from state politics.

The relationship between the LSA WA and Mr McGowan goes back many years – he was a pioneer of liquor reform when he was the Minister for Racing and Gaming in 2007.

Mr McGowan was the keynote speaker at our inaugural Sundowner on the Swan in 2020 where he championed the work and effectiveness of the LSA.

Association CEO Peter Peck thanked Mr McGowan for his support of the packaged liquor industry, particularly during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Premier McGowan has had to endure a fast and changing landscape across a wide cross section of industry during the past three years. He and his office have worked hard to ensure our industry was listened to in the face of a challenging beast”.

“Politics is relentless, and I can certainly understand his decision to call it a day and begin a new chapter in his life and spend more time with his beloved family”.

“On behalf of our members across our vast state, we wish Mark a happy retirement from parliament”.

Mr Peck said he looked forward to working with the new Premier when they’re announced later in the week.
